Royce Earl Carter, 72, died April 2, 2021 with his loving wife by his side.
Royce is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 22 years, Sandy and their daughter, Breane Carter of Brooksville, Florida. He is also survived by his son, Nathan Carter and his wife, Danielle of Brooksville, Florida; daughter, Laura Carter Smoot and her husband, Ken of Yorktown, Virginia; along with their mother, Judith Rowland Carter. He also leaves behind seven amazing grandchildren, Ashley, Nathan, Savannah, Mackenzie, Kaitlyn, Courtney, and Hunter. Royce was loved by his eight siblings, Joe Carter and his wife Linda, Paul Carter and his wife Virginia, Marie Carter Black, Martha Carter Seay, Gary Carter and his wife Janet, John Carter his partner Kathy Hamm, and Lance Carter and his wife Nancy. He was predeceased by his sister, Carolyn Carter Jensen and her husband, Larry.
Royce was born August 9, 1948 in Brooksville, Florida to Joe and Florine Carter. He always loved being outdoors! Growing up he enjoyed playing football, baseball and basketball. When Royce was 9 years of age he moved with his family to Tampa. He graduated from Brewster Vocational High School in 1966 with several awards including best sportsmanship, the Haydon Burns scholarship to South Florida University and the American Legion school award. He was also selected all-Tampa Bay Conference in football and baseball. In October 1966 Royce proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army and served our country for 2 years 7 months and 14 days in Vietnam. Upon returning home he went to the University of Tampa where he enjoyed playing football. He later moved to Alabama and attended Troy State University where he obtained his AA.
Royce lived a full life as a wonderful husband, loving father and fabulous Papa. He worked in the cement manufacturing industry for 20 years with 10 of those years as the Production Manager. In 2001 he joined his wife’s family business as an Accountant.
Royce became a devout servant of our Lord Jesus Christ in June of 2001. He served as a member and Trustee at Brooksville Wesleyan Church.
Royce loved being with his family! He was a coach, cheerleader and proud parent, and papa, to his beloved children and grandchildren. He enjoyed being out in nature whether he was playing softball with the West Hernando Athletic Club for Seniors Softball team, bicycling with his precious daughter and friends, boating or hiking. And there was always a fire in the fire pit in the fall and winter months! He also loved music. He had a great voice and dancing feet! He was the coolest and most involved dad and Papa. He will be dearly missed and forever in the hearts of his children and grandchildren!
A celebration of Royce’s life will be held on April 10, 2021 at the Brooksville Wesleyan Church at 22319 Cortez Blvd, Brooksville FL 34601. A visitation from 1:30PM to 3:00PM with service at 3:00PM.
