Larry Travis Stowers

January 13, 1945 ~ June 27, 2020 (age 75)

STOWERS, Larry Travis, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2020, in Spring Hill, Florida.  Thanks to HPH Hospice for the excellent care of Larry for the past six months.
Larry Travis Stowers was born January 13, 1945, to A.D. Stowers and Lucille Stowers in Clovis, New Mexico.  He grew up on a farm outside of Bovina (in Hub) and loved his time on the farm and with his family. The Stowers family were kind, loving and hard working. At age 20, Larry enlisted in the US Army to join our efforts in Vietnam.  He was discharged from active duty in July 1966 due to his father’s untimely death.  This was a sad time for the family.   Months later Larry learned of the loss of his entire Army company in Vietnam. He married the love of his life, Karen Kollmar Wright, on May 25, 1984.  Larry had a career as an airplane mechanic.  He retired from Bell Helicopter in 1996.  Larry also worked as a Youth Pastor and Truck driver.  Larry joined Lions International in 2005 and served in many capacities.  He was currently Tail Twister for High Point Lions Club in Brooksville, Florida.  He also served as President of Amarillo North Lions Club.  He was a Melvin Jones Fellow.  He was an avid fixer of all things, and handyman.  Larry and Karen were members of Pairs and Squares Square Dance Club in Amarillo and served as President of Top of Texas Square and Round Dance Association in 1993-94.
Larry loved his family and God. He wanted everyone to share in this same conviction.  He shared his conviction of this loving God with many around him.  Larry and Karen moved to Spring Hill, Florida, five years ago to be closer to her son and grandson.  Larry loved working in the yard and playing with his dogs, Buttons and Daizy.
Larry is survived by his wife, Karen Kollmar Stowers; son, Russell Brent Stowers (Carlos Lee) of Santa Fe, New Mexico; stepson, Vincent Wright (Deborah) of St. Pete Beach, Florida; sisters, Joyce Reed, of Bovina, Texas and Diane Talley of Gladewater, Texas; grandson, Peyton Wright; and many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents, A.D. and Lucille Stowers; brother, Gaylord Andrew Stowers; sister, Carolyn Stanberry Rainey; and son, Tony Jay Stowers.
Burial will be held at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, on Thursday, July 2, 2020.  A Memorial Service will take place at Middle Point Community Fellowship, Amarillo, Texas, on Saturday, July 18, 2020.
