THOMPSON, Hazel W., 87, of Brooksville, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at Spring Oaks Assisted Living.
Born August 25, 1932 in Adel, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Bill and Mary (Thornton) Folsom. She came to Brooksville 56 years ago from Temple Terrace, Florida and worked alongside her mother-in-law, Roberta Brown, who owned and operated Roberta’s Beauty Salon, the first beauty salon in Brooksville. She went on to become a nurse’s aide and retired from Lyke’s Memorial Hospital. Hazel was a wonderful gardener who loved to plant and grow vegetables and who loved nothing more than to eat southern cooked veggies.
She was blessed with a loving family and is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Debra Jean McConnell & John Clapper and Lynnette M. & David L. Merritt, of Brooksville, Florida; sisters, Linda Doty and Martha Sue Kell; grandchildren, James McConnell, Randy McConnell, Jason Clapper, Joe Merritt, and Jazmine Lantz; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son, James E. Thompson.
A Visitation for family and friends will take place from 5:00-7:00pm, Sunday, July 26, 2020 at Merritt Funeral Home, Brooksville Chapel, where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am, Monday, July 27, 2020, with Reverend Bob Hope officiating. Burial will follow at Brooksville Cemetery.
