Edgar George Hamel

November 20, 1938 ~ July 27, 2020 (age 81)

HAMEL, Edgar George, son of Canadian parents George and Mathilda (Gagne) Hamel, peacefully departed this earth on July 27th to join his wife of 53 years, Linda (Galloway) Hamel in Heaven.

He leaves behind their three daughters and their husbands, Dawn and Steven White of Florida, Lynnette and Kevin White of North Carolina, and Wendy Hamel-Sherzer and Lukas Sherzer of Rhode Island. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Steven White, currently deployed for his fourth time, Karlyca Conroy, Brandon White, Eric White, Brian White, recently returned from his 2nd deployment, Gideon Sherzer and Sebastian Sherzer, as well as four great-grandchildren, Aliyah White, Elijah White, Gianna Conroy and Gabriel White. He was the proud godfather of Charles Hawkins.

He was a lifelong resident of Rhode Island before moving to Florida four years ago. He was a proud 1956 graduate of LaSalle Academy before entering the US Air Force. He finally retired after more than 40 years from civil service. He was a Master Mason with the Ionic Lodge No.28 F. & A.M. in Coventry, RI and a member of the VFW Post 10209 in Spring Hill, FL.

Until his long overdue retirement at the age of 75, he did not have much time for hobbies. He spent all his time at work or shopping with his wife at Walmart or Harbor Freight.

When he retired in 2014, he enjoyed sleeping late, watching television (favorite-Steve Wilkos), surfing the web, listening to Canadian music (Comme Ci, Comme CA) very loudly, sending his 2 youngest grandsons junk food because their mom wouldn't buy it for them, doing crossword puzzles, reading, buying his youngest great granddaughter running shoes so she could race fast in competitions, riding his lawn mower, sitting with the horses, and concocting the most elaborate, unorthodox ways of fixing things.

He announced every morning, "It's another beautiful day!!" It was quite fitting the day he passed started with the sun shining bright and ending with a thunderstorm as the Earth sent him to reunite with family and friends waiting for him on the other side.
