MACDAID, Douglas Tracy, died May 30, 2022 at the age of 92 after a short illness.
Born October 22, 1929 in Hackensack NJ, he was raised in Endicott NY, and graduated from Union-Endicott High School in 1946 at age 16. Doug was an accomplished drummer who studied under the renowned Acton Ossling, Sr. He enrolled in the Marine Corps at age 17. After his honorable discharge, Doug attended Temple University for two years before being recalled to serve in the Korean War, however, ended up not being deployed. So, he started his career with IBM back in Endicott. In 1953, Doug married the love of his life Rosalie. He was one of the founders of the Endicott Continentals Ancient Fife and Drum Corps in 1954. In 1958 he was transferred by IBM to New Jersey and he and his young family began their new life in Hamilton Square. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, volunteering with his son’s little league team and Boy Scout Troop #6, served as an Elder at his church, served on the board of directors of the newly formed IBM Dayton Credit Union, and went to Deep River, Connecticut every third Saturday in July to march with various Fife and Drum Corps. He completed his AA degree at Ryder College and then retired from IBM in 1987 after 38 years of service.
Doug and Rosalie then moved to Spring Hill, Florida where he enjoyed an active retirement of travel, golf, and achieved the rank of Golden Life Master in bridge as well as served as Treasurer for the Nature Coast Bridge Club for 15 years. Doug served as a deacon in his church. In April, Doug and Rosalie celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary quietly in their home.
Douglas is predeceased by his parents, Anna and Tracy Macdaid, his sister, Marion Fukushima, and his daughter-in-law Gayle Parker. He is survived by his wife: Rosalie; son: Jerry; grandchildren: Kristen Parker, Whitney Penzien (Dirk), Jeremy Parker (Sandy), great grandchildren: Jillian Parker, Brandon Bobo, and many nieces and nephews.
