Mary Ellen Leggett passed away on March 6, 2017 in Alamogordo, New Mexico following a lengthy illness.
She was born on November 30, 1933 in Oneida, New York to Edward and Alice Brophy. Mary Ellen married Everett on November 10, 1973 at Griffiss Air Force Base, New York. After working 20 years in civil service and upon Everett’s retirement from the United States Air Force, Everett and Mary Ellen moved to the Lake Lindsey community of Hernando County in 1974. There she worked for the Hernando County School District as secretary for the principal until her retirement. She was a member of Lake Lindsey United Methodist Church for over 30 years where she served in a number of church positions and sang in the church choir. Later she joined the Wesleyan Methodist Church of Brooksville, Florida. Mary Ellen and Everett moved to La Luz, New Mexico in 2012.
Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Alice Brophy; brother, Brendon Brophy; sister, Barbara Teeter. She is survived by her husband, Everett Leggett of La Luz, New Mexico; step-daughters, Ann Carsen of La Luz, New Mexico, Carol Kirksey of Rancho Cucamonga, California; niece, Ann Beehner of Syracuse, New York; nephew, Tim Teeter of Illion, New York.
A Graveside service will be at 10:30am, Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Lake Lindsey Cemetery with Reverend Ron Sumpter officiating.
