Marvin Thomas McCarthySeptember 28, 1933 ~ January 10, 2018 (age 84)
Rev. Marvin (Mac) T. McCarthy, known as Big Mac or pastor Mac to his many valued friends, went home to be with Jesus. Mac passed away after a brief illness on January 10, 2018 in Spring Hill, Fl, with his family by his side.
Mac was born in Bridgeport Ct. on September 28, 1933, where he resided most his life before retiring to Florida 10 years ago. After graduating from Harding High School, Mac served four years in the US Navy as a signal man aboard the USS Columbus. It was while in the Navy, and while his ship was docked in Boston, that he met his wife of 61 years, Ethel.
After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Mac, along with his bride returned to Bridgeport. In his early years Mac was a meat cutter for different area supermarkets. Following his life calling, Mac became a counselor with Mid-Western Council on Alcoholism, McDonough House. Later on, Mac became an ordained minister for the Assemblies of God, a Pentecostal denomination church. As a minister, Mac was an associated pastor with New Life of Trumbull Ct., before assuming pastoral duties of New Life Church of New Haven.
Mac, along with his wife, were co-founders and directors of the Simon Evans House, a Christian Home for women, for 17 years. Mac dedicated the last 50 years of his life reaching out to and counseling many. Because of the significant, positive impact he had on so many people, his legacy will carry on.
Mac was predeceased by his wife Ethel, his daughter Debra Miller, his dad Thomas, his mother Edna(Hopper), his brother Walter, his sister Arlene Stone and his brother in laws Robert Stone and Raymond Kaupp.
Left to cherish his memories are his sons Mickey and his spouse Nancie, Kenneth and his wife Jillian, David and his wife Peggy and his daughter Beth-Anne Collins and her husband Jonathon and son in law Mark. Miller and Marie Lancaster Kuhajda, who was like a daughter to him. Mac also leaves behind his 11 grandchildren, Mickey McCarthy (Kim), Mark Miller(Sarah), Jill Bodnar (Jeff), Kenneth Pisano (Kim), Nicole Martin (Matthew), David Pisano, Annamaria McCarthy, Katie Miller, Jonathon Collins, Isabella Spielman and Gabriella Spielman. Mac also had 11 great grandchildren, Alvin, RoriAnne, Lilyana, Camryn, Lukas, Tyler, Brooklyn, Olivia, Hayden, Collin and Lacey. Mac had four nephews, the Rev. Robert Stone C.M., Thomas Stone(Kathleen), Richard Stone(Lyn) and Chris Stone(Lisa) and one niece, Amanda Blakie(Kevin). Mac also leaves behind his brother in law Kenneth Kaupp(Patricia) of Boston, MA.
A memorial service will be held on February 4, 2018 at 3pm at Praise Family Worship Center, 17290 Meridian Blvd. – Hudson, FL
There also will be a memorial service on March 24 at 10am at New Life Assemblies of God Church, 28 Hedgehog Rd. – Trumbull, CT.
