JINKENS, Julia Janette, 94, of Brooksville, Florida, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2019 at her home.
Born January 29, 1925 in Parkersburg, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Harold & Katherine (Goff) Coe. She came to Brooksville 54 years ago from the Clearwater and Largo area. She worked at the daycare center at Hernando Christian Academy and in the cafeteria at Brooksville Elementary School, where she became every student’s grandmother. Name a worthwhile cause in Brooksville in the past 40 plus years and she was at the center as chief money raiser, organizer and laborer; always upbeat, positive and never taking no for an answer she raised money for the Hernando High School marching band to perform in Washington D.C., raised money for Jerome Brown’s parents to see him play at the Fiesta Bowl National Championship, raised funds so a local basketball team could travel to Ireland, helped put together a welcome home celebration for U.S. Army helicopter pilot and Hernando High graduate, Bobby Hall, II, who crashed in North Korea, raised money for the parents of Hernando High sprinter John Capel to see their son compete at the Sydney Olympics, selling concessions at Hernando High football games for 40 years, holding “sober celebrations” for Hernando High graduates for 30 years, worked with the city to build and host the New Year’s Eve Tangerine Drop, packed ice to help victims of Hurricane Andrew, raised money to buy buses to transport folks left homeless by Hurricane Katrina, won best in show for a float she decorated for Faith Evangelical Presbyterian Church and was honored as the Great Brooksvillian of the Year in 2012, just to name a few. Julia was a member of Faith Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Jinkens and her son, Les Jinkens. She is survived by her son, Tim Jinkens of Brooksville, Florida; daughter, Joanna Zayas of Spring Hill, Florida; grandchildren, Aaron Moneyhan, Ben Moneyhan, Kasey Moneyhan and Elizabeth Beeker; great-grandchildren, Murphy Moneyhan, Rory Moneyhan and Brayden Beeker.
A Gathering for family and friends will be held from 11:00am-12:00pm, Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Faith Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where a Memorial Service will begin at 12:00pm, with Pastor David Franklin officiating.
