Dr. Norman Neal Bonner, age 87 died Sun., Jan. 16, 2005 in Brooksville under the care of Hospice & Family. He was born April 4, 1917 in Tabor, Iowa. He attended Tabor High School & Tabor Theology College, recieved his BA from Upland(Beulah) College, Upland, CA, a Masters degree from CO Springs College, CO & his Doctor of ED. degree from Oklahoma State University, Tulsa, OK. He was an ordained minister of the Wesleyan Church. Dr. Bonner grew up on an Iowa farm and never lost his love of working the soil. After recieving his education, he served the Wesleyan Church as a minister, teacher & college administrator along with his wife, Gertrude. He was a missionary to Haiti from 1942-44. Taught at CO Springs Bible College from 45-47. Served in South Africa, Swaziland & Zambia from 1947-60. He then became president of Oklahoma Wesleyan University (Central Pilgrim College) Bartlesville, OK from 1960-69. In 1969-70 he was MACV Training Director for the USAF Language School in Saigon, Viet Nam, developing an English curriculum for Vietnamese pilots. 1970-71 he was a professor at United Wesleyan College, Allentown, PA. Then from 1971-80 they moved to Portland, OR, where he was a professor and Dean of Admissions at Western Evangelical Seminary. He returned to OK Wesleyan University as a professor from 1980-84. They retired to The Wesleyan Village, Brooksville, FL in 1984, but accepted several one year assignments after retirement in Haiti, Swaziland and then to Guyana, South America.

Gertrude, his wife of 65 years, parents Lyle & Estella Bonner, two brothers, Carroll of CA & Avon of FL & grandson, Michael preceded him in death.
Survivors include his two sons & their wives , Stan & Maureen of Brooksville and Dr. Robert & Linda of Bartlesville, OK; Four grandchildren, Julie L. Bonner of Yukon, OK, Sean D. Bonner & Joshua M. Bonner of Brooksville, Jared R. Bonner of Burlington, KY; great grandson, Brandon C. Bonner of Burlington, KY and a host of friends.

He had a full and friutful life. He will be remembered for his love, faithfulness and devotion to God, family and church.

Visitation for friends will be 10-11am, Fri., Jan. 21, 2005 at the Brooksville Wesleyan Church, where funeral services will begin at 11:00am with Dr. George Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Florida Hills Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Oklahoma Wesleyan University, c/o Brooksville Wesleyan Church.
